Dr. Ed King (British Antarctic Survey) “Drumlins and MSGL beneath Antarctic ice streams: old subject, new data.”
Abstract
Confirmation that drumlins and mega-scale glacial lineations are formed beneath fast-flowing ice streams was provided in 2009 by a ground-based radar study of Rutford Ice Stream, West Antarctica. Since that time additional geophysical investigations of the bed of the ice stream have provided further insight into the character of the sediment in the bedforms. Significant differences in the porosity and therefore water content of the sub-glacial material are observed which have a strong influence on motion at the ice-bed interface. Similarly-detailed bed DEMs are now available for seven sites on Pine Island Glacier, so it is now possible to compare the Rutford bedforms with those from a different catchment.
