One-day workshop hosted by the School of Geosciences, University of Aberdeen, under the strategic theme of 'The North'
Precise and accurate chronologies are critical to our understanding of the timing of past events and rates of change, and are essential components of the majority of Lateglacial and Holocene palaeoenvironmental studies, including those undertaken across northern environments. This one-day workshop will provide a theoretical and practical introduction to two pieces of open-source software – Clam and Bacon – that can be used to develop age-depth models. Workshop participants will be instructed in the use of both programs by their developer, Dr Maarten Blaauw (Queen’s University Belfast). There will also be opportunities to discuss best practice in the development and reporting of site chronologies using the software, plus time to work with your own data under Dr Blaauw’s guidance.
Participants will be expected to bring a laptop computer to the workshop with the software already installed (further details provided upon registration). The software will run on both PC and Mac. The workshop is free, although places are limited. If you are interested in attending then please contact Dr Ed Schofield (details below) on or before Monday 19 May to reserve your place.
