Community and Indigenous
Overview

Community and Indigenous Archaeologies at Aberdeen are dynamic research themes, with research projects engaging in Indigenous archaeologies from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Community based projects run in descendant communities in such diverse locations as Alaska and Palau, as well as in non-descendant communities in Scotland.

Within this theme archaeology finds its contemporary relevance in research projects discussing concepts such as:

  • identity
  • heritage
  • ethics
  • social engagement
  • public involvement

and dare to tackle the question of “whose past?” from an academic perspective.
