MSc Archaeology of the North

The taught MSc in Archaeology of the North is the only degree of its kind in the world. Students are equipped with research skills to investigate the material culture and heritage of the far northern hemisphere. With an emphasis on colonisation and culture contact, lifeways and world-views, every graduate is provided with a thorough knowledge of the theory and practice specific to northern archaeology, together with the foundation for further study or professional employment.

MSc Geophysics

Developed on the back of a recognised need for qualified Geophysicists within industry, this unique programme is designed to expose students to the theory and practice of modern geophysics, with an emphasis on cutting edge techniques for understanding the structure, dynamics and composition of the Earth from the near surface to the deep interior. The content is broad-based and integrative with a strong focus on the quantitative aspects of geophysical data analysis and interpretation.

MSc Planetary Sciences

This exciting programme is designed to prepare students with a science or engineering background for a career in the UK's rapidly expanding space sector. The MSc Planetary Sciences is delivered by the team behind the HABIT instrument, which will be sent to Mars in 2022 as part of the ExoMars mission, and covers everything from planetary atmospheres and landforms, to remote sensing, data analysis, astrobiology and space systems engineering and instrumentation.

The strong interdisciplinary approach will train the next generation of geoscientists, physicists, chemists, biologists and engineers to work together to realise the ambitious plans for space flight and planetary exploration over the next decade.

MSc Sustainable Energy Geosciences

The MSc GeoEnergy equips students with the subsurface skills required for the rapidly evolving energy transition sector. At the heart of this programme is a focus on developing a strong technical understanding of rocks and fluids in the subsurface, and how to model, monitor and verify their presence using geophysical, petrophysical and other techniques. This knowledge is then applied to a wide range of low carbon energy solutions including sustainable mineral extraction, geothermal flow and subsurface storage.
