Summary

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.

Eligibility

To be considered for these scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2025.
  • By September 2025, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
  • Not have studied or worked for more than one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
  • Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
  • Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.

The scholarships are applicable to the following on-campus programmes:

  • MSc Geographical Information Systems
  • Msc Sustainability Transitions

Criteria

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

  • Academic merit
  • Quality of research proposal
  • Potential impact on the development of the candidate’s come country

The CSC aims to identify talented individuals who have the potential to make change.

Application Procedure

To apply for this scholarship for the academic year 2024/2025, candidates are asked to submit the standard application for admission to the University and also apply through the Commission's own Electronic Application System (EAS). The EAS will close for applications on 14 December at 16:00 GMT. Candidates must have submitted an application for admission to the University by this date.

The University will consider all applications and will choose the candidates that they wish to nominate to the Commonwealth Commission for funding.
