Town House
Aberdeen City Council will host a Civic Reception on the first night of the conference at the impressive Town House. All conference delegates are invited.
Aberdeen's Town House dates from the 1870s and incorporates elements of the previous Town House and Tolbooth.
A proposal that sandstone be used was abandoned when John Fyfe offered to supply the Council with his Kemnay stone at a preferential rate.
The result is a building, by architects Peddie and Kinnear, that expresses the confidence of a mature granite industry. The tall, dominating tower is a major landmark in the city and the arcading is a particularly impressive street-scape feature.
The building is situated in the main city centre and provides a connection between the old burgh of Aberdeen, in the form of the Tolbooth, and the new-found confidence and wealth of the 19th century merchant city.
The interior detailing of Town House predominantly dates to the mid-19th century remodeling of the site and is of very high quality, especially to the municipal rooms. It demonstrates the wealth of 19th century Aberdeen. The detailing includes a splendid geometric staircase leading to a magnificent double height hall at the first floor and Heraldic decoration to the ceiling.
Beach Ballroom
The Conference Dinner will take place at Aberdeen's iconic Beach Ballroom and will include a traditional Scottish Ceilidh - giving attendees the chance to experience live music and dance on one of the finest dance floors around.
The Beach Ballroom is a Category B listed Art-Deco building on the sea front of Aberdeen, it is home to one of Scotland's finest dance floors which floats on steel springs which gives dancers extra bounce when dancing in the Ballroom. It opened in May 1926 and regularly plays host to music and dance events, conferences, weddings and boxing bouts.
Famous acts to appear at the Beach Ballroom include The Beatles , The Small Faces , Pink Floyd , The Who , Cream , Joe Loss , Ken Mackintosh and more recently The Ordinary Boys .
