Under the directorship of Ralph Stellzenmuller, Ensemble Combassal play music by Monteverdi: Music in Transition. The bridge between prima and seconda pratica
Ensemble Combassal presents the transition from prima pratica to seconda pratica in a musically and dramaturgically exciting concert. The music of Cipriano da Rore, Angelo Notari, Orlando Gibbons, Heinrich Schütz, Claudio Monteverdi and others is used to showcase the radical musical innovations of the late 16th and early 17th centuries, which were driven by equivalent religious and socio-political changes. Questions arise: were these changes revolutionary, or evolutionary? Was Heinrich Schütz the Monteverdi of Germany? Was Orlando Gibbons the Monteverdi of England?
