This is a past event

Translation UK is a prestigious annual conference that brings together UK and overseas scientists investigating how cells control the production of proteins, in organisms ranging from bacteria to humans. This is the first time that the University of Aberdeen has hosted this prestigious event, which will be held on the King's College campus from July 7 to July 9, 2015.

Protein production is a key process in living cells.  Defects in how this process is regulated in human cells cause cancer and contribute to many other human diseases. In addition, biotechnology processes make use of protein production to make crucially important medicines such as insulin. Recently, new technologies related to DNA sequencing have revolutionised this research and are making a deeper understanding of the role of protein synthesis in health and disease possible.  The latest findings from this research in this area will be presented by colleagues from the UK and Europe at this conference.

The conference is organised by Dr Berndt Muller, Dr Barbara Gorgoni and Prof Ian Stansfield from the School of Medical Sciences. They and the University are looking forward to welcoming an international group of world class scientists to Aberdeen for an exciting and stimulating conference.
