Doors Open Days in Aberdeen is a great way to find out about the hidden heritage on your doorstep. This is your opportunity to get behind the scenes of important landmarks and community buildings. And all for free!
The University is taking part in this year's Doors Open Day. There is a number of buildings participating, see a full list below:
- Cruickshank Botanic Garden: The botanic gardens will be open to the public with unrestricted access all day. Individuals can wander around to admire all the beautiful plants and flowers on display.
- The Sir Duncan Rice Library: Bookable tours will be available for an exclusive behind the scenes look at the Glucksman Conservation Centre, where conservators care for Special Collections’ Rare Books, Photographs, Art on Paper and Archive collections. Tours will be held at 10am, 11am and 12pm, to book a place email: e.kotze@abdn.ac.uk or telephone: 01224 274268. Please be aware that the Glucksman Conservation Centre is a working practical conservation laboratory environment. Children under 12 are welcome but are expected to have close parental supervision throughout the tour.
- King's College Chapel: Conducted tours at 10.30am and 3.15pm. Access is only possible as part of a conducted tour (limited opening times).
- Institute of Medical Sciences, Foresterhill: Guided tours at 10.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm. Also come along to the Atrium, IMS building,to get an insight into some of the amazing research conducted in Medical Sciences.
- King's Museum: The Ground Floor and 2nd Floor Picture room will be open all day to the public. Come along to view some of the fascinating exhibits on display.
- Zoology Museum & Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre: Get up close and personal with some of your favourite animals and view some interesting specimens at the Zoology building. This area will be accessible all day. More information here
- Aberdeen Sports Village and Aquatics Centre: This state of the art sports facility will be open all day to the public to view the superb equipment available. Access will be permitted in the corridors, spectator areas and Cafe Kovo.
