Following its showing at the Great Tapestry of Scotland, this touring exhibition is coming to Huntly, Aberdeenshire, hosted by the Confucius Institute of the University of Aberdeen.
The exhibition features a collection of textiles and garments that highlight traditional cotton weaving techniques from the Songjiang district of Shanghai – a craft passed down for over 700 years. Curated by artist Dong Ye, the display explores the cultural and historical significance of these textiles, recognised for their skilled craftsmanship and enduring patterns.
Set within a country known for its own strong textile traditions, this exhibition offers a chance to discover another weaving heritage with deep cultural roots. Visitors are invited to explore the continuing story of Songjiang’s cotton textiles and their place in China’s rich cultural landscape.
The exhibition is free to attend and open to all. Number 30 is open Thursday – Monday, please check their website for up-to-date opening times.
