Join the CMLR and CISRUL for a special symposium as part of the University of Aberdeen's events to mark Black History Month
On Wednesday 25th October, the Centre for Modern Languages Research and Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society, and the Rule of Law are hosting a symposium, with the following speakers and topics:
- Professor Nicki Hitchcott (University of St Andrews) and Dr Alice Urusaro Uwagaga Karekezi (University of Rwanda Center for Conflict Management): ‘Decolonising Belgian Colonial History: Recentring the Mothers of Rwanda’s Stolen Métis Children'
- Professor Lewis Gordon (University of Connecticut, USA):'Decolonizing linguistic archaeology’
- Dr José Lingna Nafafé (University of Bristol): ‘Lourenço da Silva Mendonça and the Black Atlantic Abolitionist Movement in the Seventeenth Century'
- Professor Jane Gordon (University of Connecticut, USA): 'Statelessness and contemporary enslavement'
