The Toulmin Prize, established in 2008 and awarded annually, is a short story prize commemorating the work of one of North-East Scotland's finest exponents of written Doric, David Toulmin (John Reid).

The Reid family, in conjunction with the Elphinstone Institute. launched the Toulmin Prize to honour the achievement of David Toulmin and to encourage the writing of fiction with a North-East focus.

The Elphinstone Institute has brought together all the winning stories since inception together with selected others in the anthology Dinna Mess wi the Popo & other stories of the North-East of Scotland.
