OurStory Scotland is a Scottish Charity run wholly by volunteers, dedicated to collecting, archiving and presenting the stories of the LGBTQ community in Scotland. Over a period of 20 years they have developed innovative ways of recording the stories of this community. The stories they collect are archived at the National Library of Scotland and National Museums Scotland. To find out more, you are welcome to join our Conversation with Jaime Valentine, Oral Historian for OurStory Scotland.
Aberdeen has played a key role in the storytelling work of OurStory Scotland, especially during their Queer Stories project (2005 – 2008), when many handwritten episodes were collected in Aberdeen, and visual storytelling provided materials for the RoundABout exhibition.
At this event, we will be chatting about the Aberdeen connection as well as recent themed projects including Love Out of Bounds, Coming In, and Transgressions. We will also be discussing how the pandemic provided special challenges to their work, and how they responded with innovative methods of recording stories, including Queer Distance.
