Dr Anna Heath is a a Bio-statistician at SickKids hospital in Toronto within the Child Health Evaluative Sciences (CHES) program, an assistant professor at the University of Toronto in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and an honorary research fellow at University College London in the Department of Statistical Science.

Her main research interests are applying Bayesian statistical analysis to health economic evaluations. She is specifically interested in decision making under uncertainty using Value of Information methods for sensitivity analysis and clinical trial design.

Title: Value of information as a tool for clinical trial design.

Abstract: Value of Information methods use evidence about the costs and effectiveness of different interventions to calculate the economic value of undertaking future research. This value can be compared with the cost of collecting additional information and used as a tool for trial design, where only trials that offer significant value would be run. Despite the potential benefits of this type of analysis, in terms of efficiently spending research budgets, practical applications have been limited due to computational difficulties and ease of interpreting the results. This talk will present the key concepts required to design trials using Value of Information methods and demonstrate how these methods can be employed in practice.
