The project sets out to review the existing literature and evidence to understand what are the key factors which determine the degree to which different businesses are able and/or willing to respond to regulatory and non-regulatory interventions to reduce the energy intensity of their travel-related practices? The evidence will be collated between March 2013 and August 2013 in order to make recommendations to the Department for Transport as to how they might develop a segmentation model of businesses which informs the design of policy aimed at travel related business activities. This review of the evidence base must be capable of supporting the identification and prioritisation of factors which are implicated in shaping the sustainability of current business practices in relation to travel. The ideal end-result of this evidence review and any subsequent model development would be to contribute to the development of green business practices to meet key environmental targets, particularly carbon, whilst at the same time generating opportunities for UK companies to lead in the innovation of green and low carbon products and services.
