Potential careers in the energy industry for senior secondary school students will be outlined as part of a one day conference organised by the University of Aberdeen, in partnership with the careers charity, Inspiring Futures Foundation.
Every secondary school in Scotland has been invited to attend the event which will feature industry speakers from sectors including oil & gas, renewables, business and management, and nuclear energy.
The day will consist of a mixture of presentations, Q&A sessions, focussed workshops and informal conversation.
Ken Richardson, Trustee of the Inspiring Futures Foundation: “The energy sector is of vital importance and needs highly qualified and motivated young people. The industry, in turn, offers them diverse and challenging careers from shaping policy to implementing technical solutions, from developing sustainable businesses to managing global scale projects.
“While engineering and science skills are at the core of the sector’s needs, there is also a high demand for graduates from many other disciplines to drive and support policy and business development.
“This one day conference will look at the opportunities and career routes available in this key sector of the economy and advise students on how best to achieve their goals of working in their area of interest.”
Attendees will hear from members of the University of Aberdeen’s Institute of Energy as well as industry experts from firms including BP, OPITO and Oil & Gas UK. There will be information stands from industry bodies as well as Aberdeen City Council, Scottish Renewables and Inspiring Futures.

The event will be held at MacRobert Conference Centre at the University of Aberdeen’s King’s College on Thursday June 19, 10.45am – 4pm.
