The academic efforts of six Aberdeen students who have completed degrees related to the Energy sector will be recognised at a ceremony this evening (Tuesday 9 December).
Three University of Aberdeen and three Robert Gordon University postgraduate students have been awarded Best Student Prizes by the Energy Institute Aberdeen Highlands and Islands branch.
David Campbell, Director and Vice President of BP's North Sea Business will present the winning students with a cash prize and certificate, at the event which will be held at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels in Aberdeen.
Each of the students will give a short presentation showcasing their postgraduate projects to an audience of key industry figures before receiving their accolade.
The three University of Aberdeen student prize winners, all of whom graduated in the last fortnight with Distinction, are: Johanna Yates who graduated with an MSc Energy Futures (Renewables); Azu-Asonye Onwudebe who graduated with an MSc Energy Futures (Oil and Gas) and Olubunmi Obe who graduated with an MSc Safety Engineering and Risk Management.
During their studies Azu and Johanna acted as President and Vice President respectively of the Aberdeen University Energy Institute Student Chapter, a committee bringing together students and representatives from the Energy Institute.
The three Robert Gordon University student prize winners, all of whom graduated last week, with Distinction, are: Aprad Galvao Barata Pinto, who graduated with an MSc Drilling and Well Engineering; Yerkebulan Soltybayev, who graduated with an MSc Petroleum Production Engineering and Thelma Ochonogor, who graduated with an MSc Oil and Gas Engineering.
Denis Pinto, Chairman of the Aberdeen Highlands & Islands Branch of the Energy Institute and a lecturer at Robert Gordon University said: "The EI Best Student Prizes have been created to award postgraduate students who have excelled academically within Energy industry relevant degree subjects. These six students are prime examples of the outstanding quality of talent entering the industry at this all important time and we are delighted to commend them with these awards."
