Want to unlock some of the secrets of the brain? Maybe you could be sold on science at Thainstone Market? Think you can create the best lego robot? Or fancy checking out our science buskers at Union Square?
These are just some of the many attention grabbing events lined up for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire during this year's National Science and Engineering Week (March 12 to 21).
With 30 separate events from archaeology to zoology there is sure to be something for everyone.
The British Science Association in Aberdeen has pulled together a packed programme which aims to inspire school pupils and the public about science, technology, engineering and maths.
Dr Ken Skeldon is chair of the British Science Association Aberdeen Branch and heads up the University of Aberdeen’s Public Engagement with Science team. He said "We are very excited about this year's events for National Science and Engineering Week.
“From everyday science performed out of the boot of a car right through to major events that highlight cutting edge research, we have an action packed programme that will surely suit all."
Organisers say the range and quality of activities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are among the best in the UK marking this annual event.
A week long programme of schools activities involving over 15 partner organisations will complement the Scottish Government's Do Something Creative, Do Science campaign being highlighted through a series of Open Doors events for 11 to 16-year-olds.
BP has again supported the annual Schools Challenge, which this year is a competition to make the best air powered racing car.
Completely new events taking place in the North-east this year include Science in the Square, Car Boot Science, Bring Your Own Brain and the alternative Nobel Prize ceremony streamed live from Dundee - the Ig Noble Awards.
There will also be the return of a number of popular events, such as the hugely popular Discovery Day, taking place this year on March 20 at Satrosphere Science Centre and Aberdeen Maritime Museum.
Dr Skeldon added: "Discovery Day will feature a new set of science shows, exhibitions and hands-on activities including BP's Lego Robot Challenge and the new show - Skeletons in Your Closet - from the University of Aberdeen’s internationally recognised bone research group."
Most events during the public programme are FREE but booking is essential for some. For full detail see the National Science and Engineering Week website at www.britishscienceassociation.org/aberdeen where you can download a full programme.
The coordination of the programme is sponsored principally by BP and the University of Aberdeen through a Scottish Government Science Engagement Grant. RCUK are also a major contributor, fostering new outreach channels to highlight current research.
