MSc Renewable Energy Engineering students enjoyed a day out by the River Don when they visited the Donside Hydro Scheme, a community renewable energy initiative.
The plant is owned and managed by ACE (Aberdeen Community Energy), and generates power of up to 100 kW using the water flow from the Don. Generating about 520,000 kWh per year of electricity, the plant supplies enough electricity to power 130 homes, saving 240 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Programme Director Davide Dionisi said: “Our students had a great day out learning all about the development of the idea, the financing, commissioning and operation of the plant, while enjoying a nice walk along the footpaths on the river Don.”
