The principal purpose of a Telford Institute Workshop is to support pan-Scottish collaborative research activity that would not otherwise have taken place, by providing funding to convene meetings of Scottish-based researchers and practitioners to review the state-of-the-art of a specialised research topic of common interest and to thereby stimulate the formation of new pan-Scottish research groups to pursue the topic in question through concerted action.
The overall aim of the workshop is to bring researchers from academia and practitioners from industry together to discuss and tackle challenges in offshore geotechnics and potentially set up new collaborations of mutual benefit.
The workshop will give an opportunity to both academics and industry practitioners to explore the areas of future interest. It will give an opportunity for offshore practitioners (consultants, contractors and operators) to present/address any challenges they are facing and for academics to work together with them through a research route. Discussion will concentrate on identifying topic areas of interest, specific research questions and methods to further our knowledge.
The workshop will include informal presentations from a range of experts in the morning and early afternoon sessions to explore common interests which will be followed by more open-ended discussion in the afternoon session. Sufficient time will be kept on the programme for informal discussion in teabreaks and at lunchtime.
