The School of Engineering this week hosted a visit from a delegation of representatives from Lithuania's energy sector, who were visiting Aberdeen on a fact-finding mission.
The delegation included representatives of the Lithuanian Hydrogen Energy Association, the Lithuanian Energy Institute, the Lithuanian Maritime Cluster and Litgrid AB, which operates Lithuania's electricity transmission grid.
Their visit included a presentation on research taking place within the School on offshore wind and hydrogen, while the delegation provided information on interests and projects in the Baltic region where this research could play a role.
The visit, which was supported by the University’s Vice-Principal for Regional Engagement, Professor Peter Edwards, also included talks from Professor John Underhill, Director of the University’s Centre for Energy Transition; Stephen Mark-Williams, Executive Director of the Energy Technology Partnership research alliance which includes the University of Aberdeen; and representatives from Dräger UK.
Following the visit to the School of Engineering, the delegation were hosted at the National Decommissioning Centre (NDC) in Newburgh, where they learned about projects taking place at the NDC.
The visit was organised through the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG), where Dr Alf Martinez-Felipe from the School of Engineering is a non-executive director.
He said: “The School was delighted to host this visit on behalf of AREG, and to demonstrate the extent of our research in offshore wind and hydrogen and how this could apply to projects taking place in Lithuania.
“Their visit also included a trip to the NDC, where they were shown the extent of research taking place at the Centre in decommissioning and renewables, including the simulator.
“The feedback we received from the delegation was incredibly positive, and we were delighted to play a role in their visit to Aberdeen.”
