Chaos may be exploited in order to design dynamical systems that may quickly react to some new situation, changing conditions and their response. In this regard, the idea that chaotic behaviour may be controlled by small perturbations allows this kind of behaviour to be desirable in different applications. In this presentation chaos control methods are used to avoid bifurcations of a vertically excited pendulum in order to preserve a rotational orbit. The motivation is the idea of extracting energy from sea waves by means of a parametric pendulum, which is based on the conversion of vertical oscillations to rotational motion.
