The response of materials to shock loading is controlled by factors at the meso-scale (for example grain size, distribution of second phases etc), micro-scale (dislocations, twins etc) and the unit cell levels (face centred cubic, body centred cubic etc).
The response of materials to shock loading is controlled by factors at the meso-scale (for example grain size, distribution of second phases etc), micro-scale (dislocations, twins etc) and the unit cell levels (face centred cubic, body centred cubic etc). This talk will look at face centred cubic metals under shock loading conditions. Factors include substitutional alloying (Ni and Ni-60Co), ordering of the lattice (gamma nickel aluminide) and age hardening in aluminium alloys.
