This talk will outline some of my recent research into techniques for factorizing polynomial matrices. It will present algorithms for computing the polynomial matrix eigen-value decomposition (PEVD), QR decomposition (PQRD) and singular decomposition (PSVD). Polynomial matrices play an important role in the context of broadband sensor array signal processing including, for example, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems for wireless communications. In this case, the (i, j) element of the matrix is a polynomial representing the transfer function of the propagation channel from the ith transmitter to the jth receiver. In the talk, I will show how the new polynomial matrix factorization techniques have been successfully applied to MIMO communications with very exciting and encouraging results.
