Professor Müller is a distinguished academic and a renowned expert in the field of fracture and damage mechanics, thermodynamics, advanced materials, numerical mathematics and computer simulations. He is Director of the Institute of Mechanics at the Berlin Technical University (TU Berlin), a world-leading institution in the field of mechanical engineering. Professor Muller has authored over 200 publication including 6 books; he is also Managing Editor of the journal "Continuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics" published by Springer. Prof Müller had been working in the UK in 1998-2001 as a Professor at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.  Prof Müller is currently visiting the School of Engineering, in particular the Centre for Micro- and Nanomechanics. The visit is sponsored by the Royal Society of Edinburgh through the Distinguished Visiting Fellowship scheme.
