New type of static friction model containing hysteresis is presented.

New type of static friction model containing hysteresis is presented. The model is based on friction in a 1-DOF system and relates to an idea of non-reversibility, usually observed in real systems. Results of experimental, numerical and theoretical analyses on different effects met in dry friction such as pre-sliding phase, hysteresis and memory behavior, variable break-away force and Stribeck effect are presented. Numerical results are compared with those obtained experimentally, validating the model.

The analysis allows the classification of friction models into:

-        Models insensitive to system dynamics

-        Models sensitive to system dynamics.
