Originally found buried at Hillhead of Clatt farm, south of Kennethmont (NJ 523 265), near cairns and a stone circle. It was latter trimmed for use as a flagstone losing much of the salmon symbol, all that remains now being the lower fins. This is presumed to have been complete at the time of finding as shortly after the stone was erected beside a well which then became known as The Salmon Well.
