A carved stone relief. St Drostan is a legendary evangelist of the area, his name a Pictish form of Tristram.
Related Information
The Cistercian Deer Abbey was founded in 1219, by William Comyn, and closed in the reformation of 1560. The Abbey is associated with an earlier Celtic religious community where the 10th century book of Deer may have been kept, the book is noted for its 12th century Gaelic notes giving the legend of the founding of the Columban monastery and an important insight into Buchan's linguistic history.
