Frances Wilkins publishes article on the decline of Gaelic Psalmody for The Conversation
Below is an article in which Frances Wilkins wrote for last week's The Conversation, about the ancient Gaelic psalmody tradition which is found in Gaelic speaking communities in the West Highlands and Islands and among the diaspora in our major cities. Here she discusses the significance of Gaelic psalmody in the communities and some of the reasons for its decline in recent years. The article highlights part of her current research which explores spiritual singing in the West Highlands and Western Isles, currently funded by a British Academy mid-career fellowship.
