Join Frieda Morrison on a personal journey through the North East -looking back at how events in the last few years of the 20th Century, could shape the future of our culture. Frieda will combine her experience as a TV and Radio documentary maker with her knowledge and love of the North East to explain the changing face of the land and the impact of the changes on our poetry, music and language. With the use of unique and often un-seen film and audio recordings from Frieda’s own personal archive, this will be a journey into the treasures of the North East Culture. Not one to miss.
Broadcaster and traditional singer Frieda Morrison is best known for hosting the BBC programme Out of Doors, and has gained recognition for her features and documentaries on both radio and television, including a ‘Green Bafta’ and a New York Radio Award. Frieda is the Artist in Residence based in Celtic and Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh, the home of the School of Scottish Studies Archives. The post coincides with the ten-year anniversary of the publication of the eight volumes of The Greig-Duncan Folk Song Collection (1981-2002), Scotland’s most extensive historical collection of Scots ballads and songs. As part of the residency, Frieda will help to introduce some of the songs from the collection to schools and other groups via workshops and performances.
