Hałat Duo Plays Music of Polish Composers in Exile

The talented Hałat Duo ( Aleksandra Hałat and Marcin Hałat) will play the music of Polish composers in exile, including Tansman, Rathaus, Paderewski, and Chopin. Some of these compositions are rarely heard in the UK, so this is a rare chance to encounter these sonic marvels. The Hałat Duo have performed across Europe and have recorded the albums Music Union and The Ways . They are both members of the Karol Rathaus Ensemble.

Aleksandra Hałat, pianist, is a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (2006), and has studied at the Universität fűr Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz, as well as at the K. Szymanowsk Academy of Music in Katowice (PhD, 2018).

In 2011 she won second prize at the International Piano Competition "Bradshaw & Buono" in New York. In 2010, together with Agata Hołdyk, she received a distinction at the International Piano Competition "Concours Grieg" in Oslo, Norway. She is a scholarship holder of the Vienna International Pianists (2005) and AIMS - American Institute for Musical Studies (2007).

Marcin Hałat is a violinist, composer, improviser, and moves between classical, jazz, and improvised music. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Jazz and Popular Music at the Academy of Music in Katowice and received his PhD from the Academy of Music in Krakow.

For several years he has worked with the Sinfonietta Cracovia Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Krakow, working under the baton of conductors m.in Krzysztof Penderecki, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Lawrence Foster, John Axelrood, and recording for such labels as Sony Classical, DUX and Tv Arte.

He is a scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship and a laureate of national violin competitions. He is an assistant professor at the Institute of Music in Cieszyn, University of Silesia in Katowice.
