An afternoon of exultant organ music and song, celebrating the coming of Spring.
The Elphinstone Institute and Polish Association Aberdeen are pleased to continue their partnership with this in-person concert, bringing two wonderful musicians to Aberdeen's beautiful and tranquil King's College Chapel.
The organ pieces to be played by dr. hab. Piotr Rojek are:
- J.S. Bach Toccata d-moll BWV 565
- M. Surzyński - "Święty Boże" op. 38
- and his own improvisation
Soprano Magdalena Durant will join Rojek and together they will perform excerpts from:
- J.S. Bach Magnificat BWV 243
- St Matthew Passion BWV 244
- W.A. Mozart Exultate, jubilate K. 165
- M. Żebrowski Magnificat
- F. Schubert Ave Maria
- M. Lorenc Ave Maria
Piotr Rojek is a professor at The Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, where he directs the Cathedral Organ, Harpsichord and Early Music program and he teaches at the National School of Music in Poland. Piotr Rojek is a scholar of the Ministry of Culture and the Arts, Internationale Altenberger Orgelakademie in Germany and is a winner of multiple organ and composer competitions.
Magdalena Durant was born in Wrocław, Poland and studied at the Music Conservatory Karol Lipiński in Wrocław, Poland, as well as at the renowned Cologne State Higher School of Music in Germany. Magdalena Durant has extensive stage experience of a broad and demanding operatic repertoire. She performs throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America with the Berliner Kammeroper, Philharmonie Südwestfalen, St. Andrews Orchestra, New Edinburgh Orchestra as well as with ensembles led by renowned organist John Kitchen in Edinburgh. As a special highlight, she was featured in the 2008 ARD/WDR television documentary Ein Klavier geht. Currently, Magdalena Durant resides in Edinburgh, Scotland where she is a vocal tutor for the University of Edinburgh.
