Amanda Edmiston embarks on an enchanted journey into the verdant world of Aberdonian Elizabeth Blackwell’s A Curious Herbal (1737–39). The beautiful book – an original edition of which will be on display – is a meticulously illustrated list of plants and their descriptions and was the first such book created by a woman to be published. This multidimensional performance layers history, stories, tastes, and remedies to draw us into the garden of plants revealed within the book.

This event has been organised by the Elphinstone Institute and the University of Aberdeen Museums and Special Collections in partnership with Book Week Scotland.
