Elphinstone Institute Public Lecture Series
Cushion, or Bobbin Lace, has been worked in New Pitsligo since the early nineteenth-century. Although the twentieth-century saw a significant drop in the industry locally and nationally, lacemaking has never disappeared from Pitsligo and continues to be a living heritage in the village today. In this talk, Jan Tavendale, explores the tradition and its context, reflecting on what made, and continues to make, Pitsligo receptive to developing and maintaining this skill.
