Come and join staff and students from the Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen for their Postgraduate Open Evening, an opportunity for you to visit the Institute, chat to staff and students, visit the library and listen to archive recordings, discuss your study options, and hear more about student life at the UK's foremost research institute in Ethnology and Folklore.
Refreshments (teas/coffee and cake) will be provided.
Presentations which highlight some of the exciting research currently being conducted at the Institute will take place from 17:30 -18:30.
The Taught MLitt in Ethnology and Folklore is unique in the UK. It develops a broad understanding of Ethnology, Folklore, and Ethnomusicology. It also offers an introduction to material culture, custom, belief, song, music, narrative, childlore, games, sports and pastimes. The programme has an emphasis on Scottish Culture, and will develop your practical fieldwork skills. Through case-studies of Scottish material, the course will show how Ethnology, Folklore, and Ethnomusicology can be used to investigate important issues in contemporary society in Scotland and beyond.
