Members of the Centre for Global Development, alongside colleagues from the University of Aberdeen Business School, presented papers on fashion and clothing at a seminar to mark Anti-Slavery Day.
To mark Anti-Slavery Day, Professor Pamela Abbott, Director of the Centre for Global Development, and Dr Rachel Shanks, Associate of the Centre for Global Development, alongside Professor Azizul Islam from the University of Aberdeen Business School presented papers at the seminar 'Anti-Slavery Day: Say No to Slavery in Fast Fashion' on Tuesday 18th October 2022. The presenters were delighted to welcome the Lord Provost of Aberdeen as a special guest.
Professor Azizul presented on 'Working conditions within fashion supply chains during COVID-19', Professor Abbott presented on 'Fashion retailers' unfair practises' and Dr Shanks presented on 'Making school uniform affordable, fair and sustainable'.
Anti-slavery within the fashion industry is an ongoing research interest within the Centre for Global Developlment, and we were pleased to take part in this important, inter-disciplinary conversation.
