James was born in Sussex and graduated from the University of Bath in 1997 in European Studies with French and Italian. He worked for public affairs firm and a think tank and then as Assistant to an MEP before joining the European Parliament Secretariat in 2000. He moved from Brussels to London in 2002 and to Edinburgh at the end of 2009. He is responsible for the media, outreach and political work of the Parliament's Office in Edinburgh.
