Des Browne, Lord Browne of Ladyton (Former Secretary of State for Defence 2006-8) will speak on ‘The challenges for disarmament today’.

The Aberdeen Branch of the United Nations Association is very honoured that Des Browne has agreed to speak at its first meeting in the coming season. Des Browne is involved in a number of expert bodies looking at disarmament issues, and is a leading thinker in the field. He currently acts as convener of the Top Level Group of UK Parliamentarians for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation, established in October 2009. He has a lead-role in the European Leadership Network, and is Joint-Convener of the BASIC Trident Commission (with Malcolm Rifkindand Menzies Campbell).
