During February and March 2013 seven students from the BMus (hons) Music and Communities degree collaborated with Primary 1 – 4 at Kitty Brewster's Primary school. Through music and the other creative arts they explored the topic of ‘I am the owner of this world’ based on the iconic children’s book Where the Wild things are by Maurice Sendak. The project culminated with an exhibition and workshop day at the University in late March.
Students and Staff were excited to find out that they had been nominated and then shortlisted for an ACE award (Aberdeen City Education) in the category of ‘integrated Working Award’ in early September. The ACE awards are an Aberdeen City funded initiative. The nomination and shortlist was based on the excellent level of collaboration and engagement between the University and Kitty Brewster School.
Although the award wasn’t won it is an important and significant achievement for the degree in its first year.
