On Wednesday 19th September a Special Issue of the journal Education in the North on Education in the Arctic was launched in Old Aberdeen with contributions from Canada, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia and Sweden and a focus on teacher education and teaching in the Arctic Regions.
The Issue is an initiative of the University of the Arctic (UArctic) Thematic Network on Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity, established in 2015. The Thematic Network contributed to the Arctic Council Finnish Chairmanship priority of education and also leads the Sustainable Development Working Group project ‘Teacher Education for Diversity and Equality in the Arctic’. The project aims to enhance the understanding of the teaching profession in the circumpolar north and highlight ways in which both pre-service and in-service teacher education can assist teachers in actively contributing to the Arctic’s sustainable future.
