Research Project Award Scheme: Christian Ethics Scholarship

This award is open to students pursuing a research PhD in Theological Ethics on any subject, and who intend to begin their studies anytime in 2014.

The University of Aberdeen is pleased to announce a special scholarship in theological ethics for students intending to begin doctoral research early in 2014. The University of Aberdeen School of Divinity is a world leader in academic theology, and Theological Ethics is a priority sub discipline within the school. Possessing a robust academic research culture and an exceptionally integrated theological faculty, it offers students a chance to pursue their projects in close conversations with a range of scholars who share a strong interest in modern protestant theology.

This coming term, for instance, students in Aberdeen will have a chance to hear some of the leading scholars in the UK in the Theological Ethics research seminar, including David Clough, Susan Parsons, Esther Reed, Robert Song and Michael Northcott.

The award consists of a full fee waiver (three years of full-time PhD study at the Home/EU or Overseas student rate as appropriate) and an annual maintenance stipend of £3,600 in each of three years of full-time study.

Applicants should be interested in making a robust inquiry into a contemporary ethical issue (e.g. energy and mobility, social media, gender, reconciliation, etc.) or in engaging a methodological question or issue in ethics (i.e. natural law, scripture and ethics, the ethics of a prominent theologian, etc.).  Applicants can also consult the web pages of the supervisory team for further details about topics currently supervised in the Theological Ethics area in Aberdeen.

Women, persons from minority groups, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
