Diploma in Higher Education (Dip HE) in Dental Technology
We will reopen our applications in January 2025 for September 2025 intake.
All applicants must ensure they have fully read and understood the DipHE in Dental Technology prospectus page and the Dental Technology Application Pack.
The application process which we follow ensures that successful applicants have the academic background, employment and lab access, and workplace support to allow them to succeed within the Programme.
There are a number of steps with respect to the application process. Applicants should read and understand them all before applying.
The application dates for September 2025/26 entrants are:
• Monday 13th January : Application portal opens.
• Friday 28th February : Application portal closes.
• Mid-March : Multiple Mini Interviews (Location: Aberdeen).
• Early April : Admissions decisions sent to all applicants.
• Beginning of May : Workplace visits scheduled (Dates scheduled with Laboratory managers)
• Monday 15th September : Programme Start date.
Entry Requirements
All students must be employed as a trainee dental technician in a MHRA registered laboratory and have access to all three dental technology disciplines.
Entry qualifications for University-level qualification (access to University course), standard entry requirement, including specified subjects:
- Passes in two subjects at SQA Higher (Level 6) ), or equivalent. One pass must be within a science subject. These passes will be at grade C or above. For clarity, Maths is classed as a science subject.
- English at SCQF Level 5, currently in Scotland this would equate to a Nat5 (or equivalent; previously Standard Grade), or equivalence. Any equivalent qualification must be at IELTS level 6 or above.
- Employed as a trainee dental technician, at 80% FTE or above.
- Employed within a MHRA registered Laboratory (employment must have commenced at least six months prior to the course start date).
- Satisfactory employer documentation and workplace visit completed prior to Programme start date.
Employer / Workplace Supervisor Requirements:
Note, these documents will be emailed to employers following successful Multiple Mini Interviews.
- Nomination of a GDC registered workplace supervisor.
- Agree and sign Third party educational agreement
- Complete and sign honorary contract application form, providing relevant CV.
- Workplace supervisor completion of University Equality, Diversity & Inclusion online training.
Applicants without traditional entry qualifications but with appropriate relevant experience may be considered by the Admissions Team.
Applicants who meet the entry requirements above would be required to attend a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) session at the Institute. You can find more information on MMIs here.
