  • Photographic evidence that proves your nationality as stated on your UCAS Form - eg Passport. If you have declared dual nationality, evidence of this must be provided.
  • Completed Work Experience Form. Please download the form here.
  • Consent to Use Data and Declaration of Fitness Form. Please download the form here.
  • A copy of your University Transcript if you have not already provided this.

On Arrival

  • Please give the admissions staff member your photographic ID.
  • You are not permitted to take anything into the interview stations with you. You should leave these with a member of admissions staff or accompanying relatives/friends.

The Interview

The medical interview is a serious part of the decision-making process, so candidates should give careful consideration about what they wear, given the professional nature of the career they hope to embark upon.

  • You will have been allocated a specific interview slot. Whilst we will do our best to accommodate change requests, but we can not guarantee this.
  • Approximately 30 minutes before your allocated interview time, you will be given a tour of the dental school. Candidates will be taking to a designated room where they will be giving a welcome and a briefing about the interview process. There will be the opportunity for candidates to ask questions.
  • The interview session itself:
    • Follows the format of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs).
    • Will last for just over 1 1/2 hours.
    • Will involve candidates moving around seven successive question stations.
    • A single selector will explore one area/domain at each station for 7 minutes. They will score the candidate's performance against pre-determined criteria.
    • Following the introduction, selectors will begin asking questions. Candidates should try and keep answers succinct so responses can be scored fully and in as many areas as possible. Communication and interpersonal skills will also be scored at each station.
    • We understand that candidates are very nervous. Our aim is to put everyone at easy to allow candidates to do their best.
    • You would be advised to prepare for your interview by reviewing our website and appropriate web and paper-based materials in anticipation of potential interview topics. Given the high standards expected and the vocational nature of dental training, candidates should expect that the interview may be challenging, when the questions asked will be designed to make you think.

After the Interview

Candidates are free to leave.

Research

The School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition is actively involved in research about our admission processes and the performance of our students. When you arrive for interview, you will be asked to sign a consent form allowing your UCAS, MMI and UKCAT data to be used for educational research purposes in conjunction with any future dental school performance data. This is on the understanding that your data will not be reported individually nor your identity disclosed. You are free to decline this if you wish without the need to provide a reason.
