As recipients of funding from Cancer Research UK, researchers from the University of Aberdeen were invited to Cancer Research UK's Annual Scottish Parliamentary Reception held on the 7th of February 2024 at the Scottish Parliament.
The event, hosted by Jackie Baillie MSP, aimed to celebrate Scotland’s cancer research and to showcase some of the cutting-edge research taking place in Scotland.
The multidisciplinary team’s work is focused on early detection of oral cancer and was represented by Dr Rasha Abu-Eid (Institute of Dentistry), Professor Valerie Speirs (Institute of Medical Sciences), Professor Dave Muirhead (School of Geosciences) and Dr Katie Hanna (Institute of Dentistry).
The researchers showcased the group’s work that integrates digital pathology with Raman spectroscopy in the study of oral cancer with the aim of identifying markers of disease progression to help early detection and improve patient outcome.
The event was well attended by members of the Scottish Parliament, different research groups and the general public who showed great interest in Aberdeen’s innovative research.
