Professor Øystein Fardal, Honorary Chair at the University of Aberdeen, has published in Acta Odontologica Scandinavica.
The success of conventional periodontal treatment has been documented by numerous studies from private practice and university settings. These studies are however small and retrospective, and rate low in the scientific hierarchy. They are also performed under different health systems in a variety of countries. Due to their heterogeneity, it is difficult to compare and rate the quality of these studies.
The model by Professor Fardal et al proposes a method for comparing, verifying and scoring the long- term periodontal outcome studies. In addition, the model will aid data pooling to make larger, more reliable datasets.
