Big congratulations go to BDS4 student Mairi Cameron who recently attended the British and Irish Society for Oral Medicine’s Winter meeting in Birmingham. Mairi presented her summer project work on “Clinical factors associated with poor response to first line treatment in oral lichen planus” which had been supervised during the summer by the Institute of Dentistry’s Dr Karolin Hijazi. We are delighted to report that the presentation was very well received in Birmingham, winning Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation. This is fantastic news and we offer our warmest congratulations to Mairi.
The British and Irish Society for Oral Medicine was established in 1981 for clinicians with an interest in the investigation and treatment of diseases of the mouth. The Society’s objectives are to promote the practice of oral medicine, through teaching and research, and to encourage communication between those with an interest in any aspect of oral medicine. Oral medicine is more relevant today than ever before due to the increase in mouth cancer and HPV and the welcome emphasis on patient-centred care.
