Two NHS Endowment grants have been successfully secured by members of the Institute of Dentistry.
Dr Rasha Abu Eid and Dr George Cherukara have both been successful in securing a NHS Endowment grant for their respective research projects.
Dr Abu Eid's research project represents a collaboration between herself and the Institute of Dentistry's Dr Karolin Hijazi and the Institute of Medical Sciences' Dr Frank Ward. The title of the project is “Characterisation of the microscopic and immune profiles of premalignant oral lesions”. This study aims at identifying novel markers of oral precancerous tissues at the tissue, cellular and molecular levels to establish profiles that can better predict the risk of malignant transformation in these lesions.
Dr George Cherukara's research represents a collaboration between himself and the Institute of Dentistry's Professor Richard Ibbetson, Dr Alison Birtles and Dr Jane Smith. The title of the project is "Computer Assisted Learning / Computer Assisted Simulation (CAL/CAS) in clinical skills teaching in dentistry - A study to explore its effectiveness in improving patient care". This study explores the effectiveness of a novel digital technology-based tooth preparation analysis systems in improving student teaching and learning experience, and its influence on patient safety and care quality.
