Exhibition - Barbara Rae: The Northwest Passage

Exhibition - Barbara Rae: The Northwest Passage

This is a past event

The Northwest Passage presents work by artist Barbara Rae, inspired by her journeys from Orkney to the Canadian Arctic as she engaged with the topography and history of the land. These trips crossed the same paths as the Orcadian explorer John Rae during his expeditions between 1848 and 1851.

In 2015, 2016, and 2017 Barbara Rae travelled across the Arctic on a research vessel investigating plastic particles in the Arctic. She returned with inspiration for an impressive body of work that conveys the visual drama of this once inaccessible landscape.

Following the path of 19th century Arctic explorer John Rae allowed Barbara to see at first-hand the impact people have on this landscape, which is changing at an incredible rate.
