Silly, James Lovitt

Biography: Son of Air Commodore Benjamin James Silly and Frances Fanny Silly, Berkhamsted ; born Berkhamsted, 1924 ; educated at Berkhamsted School. In October 1942 he joined the Royal Artillery and attended a Cadets' course at the University. Later he took part in several operations, and in his last one in September 1944 was dropped by parachute on the Vosges Mountains. He was captured by the Germans and kept a prisoner till 22 October, when he was shot.
