Owen, Robert James Rex

Biography: Son of Rex Lionel Bert and Dorothy Rosina Owen, Letchworth; born Letchworth, 29 September 1923; educated at Letchworth Grammar School. Joining the Royal Air Force, he attended a Cadets' course at the University and later trained as a pilot in Canada. First posted as a Flying Instructor there, he returned to this country to become a Mosquito pilot. After being on night operations over Germany, he was on a daylight sortie on 22 February 1945 when he was shot down at Eggershausen. He is buried in the R.A.F. cemetery in the Reichswald Forest.
